Ingredients
- MASHED POTATOES
2 pounds baking potatoes, peeled and quartered
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter
salt and ground black pepper to taste
- GRAVY
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups chicken, beef, turkey, or vegetable broth (or pan drippings)
Directions
- MASHED POTATOES
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes and lower heat to medium. Simmer until potatoes are tender, 15 to 20 minutes.
- Drain potatoes and return to the pot. Season with salt and pepper. Add butter. Using a potato masher, mix until butter and seasonings are mixed in well. Add milk a little at a time and mash until desired consistency is reached and potatoes are smooth and creamy.
- GRAVY
- In a medium-size saucepan, melt butter over medium high heat.
- Whisk in flour until well combined and no white specks remain. Let cook 2 minutes.
- Slowly pour in broth and whisk well.
- Bring to a simmer and heat until thickened to desired consistency, about 2 minutes, whisking constantly.
