Crackled Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • ½ cup soft butter

  • ½ cup shortening

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar

  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

  • 3 egg yolks

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla

  • 1 ¾ cups flour

  • Nonpareils (optional)

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
  • Cream butter, shortening and sugar. Add the baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt till combined.
  • Beat in egg yolks along with the vanilla.
  • Mix in the flour.
  • Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Roll in nonpareils if desired.
  • Place 2 inches apart on ungreased sheets.
  • Bake for 20 minutes per pan or until tops are cracked & sides are set. (Do not let edges brown).
